Have you ever walked into a friend or family member’s home and instantly felt relaxed and at home? And then wondered if your homemade others feel the same? Or maybe you asked yourself, why doesn’t my home; make me feel this way? As a homemaker, here are 5 ways you can make your home feel Peaceful, Inviting, and with the presence of the Lord.
1. The Importance of a clean home:
Proverbs 31:27 NLT “She carefully watches everything in her household and suffers nothing from laziness”.
I don’t know about you, but I feel like I cannot breathe or focus in a messy home. I am not talking about a small mess here and junk mail there. Let’s be real! Who has time to pick up after the kiddos all day?..not this mama! Because umm hello; kids are messy, I mean come on, it’s basically in their DNA (haha).
I’m talking about the accumulated messes that add up little by little, and before you know it, the whole house needs a serious cleaning. When my home is a mess, I feel my life is a mess, and if my life is a mess, I’m a hot mess. Let’s not be hot mess mamas. A clean home is a foundation for filling your home with the peace you desire. Create a cleaning schedule that works for you. At the end of this post, there will be a free printable cleaning schedule that will help you get started.
2. Declutter:
Ecclesiastes 3:6b “ A time to keep and a time to throw away.”
I know it’s in our human nature to buy and collect things, even for the what-if or just-in-case circumstances, that seldomly happens and if it does, it’s 3 years later. By then, you had forgotten that you had whatever it is and ended up repurchasing it anyway. I’m a firm believer that material things hold energy. It may be partly why many people choose to live a minimalist lifestyle. Decluttered space. Decluttered mind. Just be honest with yourself and let it go! You will be doing yourself and your home a huge favor. Trust me, when you start, you’re not going to want to stop. Decluttering your home will surely fill your home with peace and a sense of clarity, making your home peaceful & inviting.
3. Worship music:
Have you ever received a phone call; after the call ended, you felt uneasy? Maybe something happens, and it rubs you the wrong way, and it seems to have ruined the mood? Let me be the first to tell you, If it is one thing that will surely change the feeling of your home almost immediately, worship music will do the trick. Worship music ushers in the spirit of peace, filling every inch of your home.
In 1 Samuel 16:14-23 (in short), King Saul’s spirit was troubled by a tormenting spirit, so he called for David to soothe him by playing the harp. Only then does the spirit leave him. Please read the story for yourself. But worship is warfare! The Bible talks a lot about musicians sent into battle. Here are some more scriptures to reference. Psalms 95:1, 68:4, 1 Chronicles 15:16, Colossians 3:16
4. Prayer: Welcome The prince of peace in:
Now that we’ve cleaned, decluttered, and added worship music, let’s dive a little deeper into making your home feel peaceful & inviting One thing that I do when I first move into a new place is pray over, bless my home, and invite the Lord in to dwell with us. But don’t worry even if you’ve lived in your home for years, you can still pray and bless and invite The Prince of Peace into your home.
What prayer can I say to bless my home?
The short answer is to Pray the Scriptures over your home. That’s correct; you don’t need this long fancy prayer to bless your home. Here is an example to get you started.
“Our Father who is in heaven Lord of all creations, I consecrate my family and my home for you to be glorified, Lord. We invite your Holy Spirit to dwell with us. We invite your angels to cover and protect our home…”
At this point, gather all of the scriptures you can find regarding the home. Don’t feel the need to memorize the scripture. It is okay to have the scriptures pulled up on your phone or written down and read them aloud as you go. The Lord says in Isaiah 43:26 to REMIND ME of my word. So that’s what we are doing here. Reminding him.
Here are a few:
Lord your word says according to Hebrews 3:4 “For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.”
“Lord, you are the builder of our home.”
Isaiah 9:6 “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
According to Matthew 7:25 “ the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.”
The rock being you ol Lord.
“Bless be the rock and the God of our foundation be exalted.”
Joshua 24:15b “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Father, you said in 2 Samuel 7:29 “Now be pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, Sovereign LORD, have spoken, and with your blessing the house of your servant will be blessed forever.”
My house shall be blessed.
Proverbs 24:3-4 “By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding, it is established; through knowledge, its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.”
“Lord, I am unsure who lived here before us and the activities that have taken place here, but I invite the Prince of Peace in. I rebuke any spirits that are not of God. I reject the spirit of delay, the spirit of depression, the spirit of anxiety, the spirit of barrenness, the spirit of infertility, the spirit of anger, the spirit of anti-progress, can no longer live here, and you must go. We pray the blood of Jesus to wash over and cleanse my home.”
5. Anoint your home:
Anointing your home goes hand in hand with the previous step. In Exodus 30:22-29 it talks about anointing the Tabernacle and the things in it with holy anointing oil. Your church store will probably be your best option to purchase your oil. I wouldn’t recommend purchasing oil from any random person or place.
If purchasing oil isn’t an option, you can simply bottle your olive oil and pray the scriptures over it. The only purpose of this oil is to anoint your home and family.
The oil that has been prayed over and blessed with pure intentions is necessary to make your home peaceful & inviting.
What does it mean to anoint your home?
Anointing your home means simply blessing it, purifying it. You can think of the oil as Jesus’s blood. Just as in Exodus 12 The Passover, the people were instructed to smear blood over the doorpost, and it served as a sign, marking the houses with spiritual protection.
How do you do a prayer walkthrough your house?
First, get rid of any items from your home that may be unclean. If you are uncertain, ask the Lord to reveal those items to you.
At this point, you are equipped with your Prayer and Scriptures from step four, and you have your anointing oil. Start at the entrance of your home while praying your prayer aloud and marking all doors, windows, and anything you feel led to anoint with your oil. Walking throughout your home, you repeat this process and allow the Holy Spirit to lead you. Feel free to have worship music playing to set the atmosphere.
With all of the tips listed above, and getting your house in order by cleaning and decluttering your space, remember..
Worship is Warfare
Now that your home is clean and free of all clutter, you will feel incredible from that alone. But by creating a routine of, playing worship music, consistent prayer, and anointing your home, will surely fill your home with Peace and the Presence of the Lord.
